Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has applauded the remarkable achievement of Akpevwe Ogboru, an assistant comptroller who completed a 35-day solo motorbike expedition from Nigeria to Belgium.
Gatekeepers News reports that Ogboru, popularly known as ‘Tracta 2’, arrived at the Nigerian Embassy in Brussels at exactly 12:47 pm on Thursday, after traveling more than 10,265 kilometers across two continents and 10 countries.
Her expedition, tagged “Ride for Women Inclusivity and Cross-Border Research,” was designed to champion girl-child empowerment, promote gender inclusivity, and spotlight the challenges of mobility, connectivity, and cultural exchange across borders.
In a statement, Abdullahi Maiwada, spokesperson for the NCS, described Ogboru’s journey as a testament to courage and resilience.
He said, “The arrival of Assistant Comptroller Ogboru at the Nigerian Embassy in Brussels was received with jubilation and admiration, reflecting pride in the Nigerian spirit of excellence.”
Maiwada added that Ogboru’s effort sends a powerful message beyond the service. He said, “Her accomplishment stands as a beacon of inspiration to Customs officers, Nigerians, and the global community, affirming that with determination and vision, boundaries can be transcended.”
“As she continues her onward journey back to Nigeria, Tracta 2’s feat underscores the NCS commitment to supporting initiatives that promote resilience, innovation, and inclusivity.”
The spokesman emphasised that the journey carried national significance. He said, “The service recognises the significance of this symbolic adventure in projecting a positive national image, strengthening bilateral ties, and reinforcing Nigeria’s leadership in pushing conversations around women and children empowerment.”
Bashir Adeniyi, Comptroller-General of Customs, personally commended Ogboru for her boldness and drive.
The statement added, “On behalf of the officers and men of the service, Adeniyi commends Assistant Comptroller Ogboru for her bravery and dedication and urges Nigerians to draw inspiration from her pioneering effort.”
He reaffirmed the NCS’s support for similar initiatives saying, “The service remains committed to creating an enabling environment where such bold initiatives can thrive, contributing not only to institutional growth but also to the advancement of broader societal values.”
