Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has assured the public that there are no active cases of Ebola virus disease in the country.
Gatekeepers News reports that the agency issued the clarification in a public health advisory on Saturday after the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) confirmed a new outbreak in Kasai Province, where 28 suspected cases and 15 deaths including four health workers have been reported.
Jide Idris, director-general of the agency, explained that although Nigeria is unaffected, authorities have increased surveillance at borders and airports, and directed hospitals to strengthen infection control protocols.
The NCDC Director General emphasised that early detection remains critical to preventing any potential spread.
He advised Nigerians to practice good hygiene, avoid close contact with individuals showing unusual symptoms, and report suspected cases through the toll-free number 6232 or state emergency hotlines.
Citizens were also urged to refrain from non-essential travel to countries currently experiencing outbreaks.
According to the advisory, travellers arriving from affected areas who develop fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, or unexplained bleeding must immediately self-isolate and contact health officials.
The agency noted that it is closely monitoring developments in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and African health partners.
