US President Donald Trump delivered a fiery address at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, denouncing global migration and climate policies while questioning the UN’s effectiveness.
Gatekeepers News reports that Trump rejected what he called “the failed experiment of open borders” and claimed climate change was “the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world,” prompting visible discomfort among some delegates. He also dismissed renewable energy, saying demands for industrialized nations to embrace it would “radically disrupt their entire societies.”
On migration, Trump accused the UN of “funding an assault on western countries” by supporting asylum seekers with cash assistance. He singled out Europe, warning it was in “serious trouble” and falsely claimed London was moving toward Sharia law, directly attacking the city’s mayor, Sadiq Khan. A spokesperson for Khan called Trump’s remarks “appalling and bigoted.”
The hour-long speech also covered global conflicts. Trump called for a ceasefire in Gaza but rejected recognition of a Palestinian state, saying it would “reward Hamas.” On Ukraine, he made a significant policy shift, declaring that Kyiv could reclaim “all of Ukraine back in its original form” with NATO and European support—contradicting his earlier suggestion that peace might require territorial concessions. He reiterated the point later on his Truth Social platform following talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Trump also criticized European nations for buying Russian energy despite opposing Moscow’s invasion, calling the situation “embarrassing.”
Despite the tense atmosphere in the hall, Trump insisted afterward that his remarks were “very well received.” He later met UN Secretary-General António Guterres, assuring him that the US stood “100% behind the United Nations, even if we may disagree sometimes.”
The president is also scheduled to meet officials from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, and will host a reception for over 100 world leaders this week.
