Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Abuja-Kaduna train will resume operations next week.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement on Saturday, Callistus Unyimadu, the corporation’s chief public relations officer, said the damaged track at Asham in Kaduna has been fully repaired.
Unyimadu noted that fares have already been refunded to 512 of the 558 passengers affected by the derailment, while efforts are ongoing to reach and process refunds for the remaining passengers.
He added that the corporation will provide the official resumption date and schedule in the coming days.
The statement reads, “The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is pleased to announce that the Abuja-Kaduna passenger train service is set to resume operations next week, following the successful completion of repair and safety checks on the affected section of track at Asham.”
“The NRC appreciates the patience and understanding of our esteemed passengers and assures the general public that their safety, comfort, and satisfaction remain our top priority.”
Recall that on August 26, a train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed after several coaches veered off the track.
The managing director, Kayode Opeifa, revealed that engineers had successfully re-railed and recovered all coaches and locomotives involved.
