Councillors – Imam Kidnapped In Zamfara Community

Gunmen have abducted two local government councillors and a cleric in Tsauni, a community within Gusau local government area of Zamfara state.

Gatekeepers News reports that according to Yazid Abubakar, spokesperson of the Zamfara police command, the victims — councillors representing Gidan Gona and Tsibiri wards in Maradun LGA, along with the community imam — were taken away on Wednesday night shortly after they had concluded prayers. The abductions occurred right in front of their residences.

Tsauni community, which lies behind Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) sector command headquarters in Gusau, also shelters many internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by ongoing banditry in the region.

Abubakar said security teams had been mobilised to the area to track the kidnappers and rescue the victims. He further appealed to residents to share information that could support ongoing operations.

Sanusi Gamagiwa, chairman of Maradun LGA, confirmed the incident, explaining that six people were initially taken but some were later freed. He added that the gunmen are yet to make their demands known.
