Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup remain intact after the Super Eagles secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Lesotho in a Group B qualifier on Thursday.
Gatekeepers News reports that played under difficult conditions for the visitors, the match saw Nigeria endure a frustrating first half, struggling to break down Lesotho’s compact defence despite dominating possession.
With Victor Osimhen and Tolu Arokodare leading the attack, supported by Ademola Lookman and Alex Iwobi, the Super Eagles failed to create clear chances, relying mostly on long balls that were easily dealt with by the hosts.

The breakthrough came ten minutes into the second half when Lesotho defender Motlomelo Mkwanazi handled the ball inside the area.
Captain William Troost-Ekong stepped up and calmly converted the resulting penalty to give Nigeria the lead, even as Osimhen remained on the bench.
Moments later, midfielder Wilfred Ndidi appealed for another penalty after being tripped in the box, but the referee waved play on.
Nigeria doubled their advantage late in the game through debutant Akor Adams, who marked his first appearance for the Super Eagles with a fine solo finish — beating his marker and slotting low past the goalkeeper to make it 2–0.
