Bayern Match European Record With Win Over Monchenglabach

Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach, who were reduced to ten men, 3-0 on Saturday.

Gatekeepers News reports that the result brought Bayern’s win tally to 13 in 13 matches across all competitions, matching the best-ever European start to a season, previously held by AC Milan in 1992-93.

The decisive goals came in the final 30 minutes: Joshua Kimmich opened the scoring after 64 minutes, followed by Raphaël Guerreiro five minutes later, and then 17-year-old Lennart Karl wrapped it up with a curling strike nine minutes from the end.

The win also kept Bayern five points clear at the top of the league table ahead of RB Leipzig.

The sending-off of Jens Castrop for Gladbach after a studs-up challenge on Luis Díaz and a subsequent VAR review upgraded his yellow card to red early in the second half—turned the tide in Bayern’s favour.

Despite the numerical advantage, Bayern’s performance had moments of sluggishness, even making six changes including replacing their regular keeper Manuel Neuer with Jonas Urbig, yet they still seized the key moments.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany reflected on the match, saying, “After the red card, the entire stadium celebrated every duel won and every save by their ‘keeper. There were a lot of emotions — we stayed calm. When we got our chances, we took them.”

It was also just the second time this season that Bayern striker Harry Kane failed to score, after having a goal disallowed for offside late in the match.
