Wale Tinubu, Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Oando Plc, has said the planned expansion of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery to a production capacity of 1.4 million barrels per day (bpd) firmly positions Nigeria on the global energy map.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a post on X on Monday, Tinubu congratulated Aliko Dangote, founder of the Dangote Group, on the ambitious capacity target.

“My friend, @AlikoDangote, your work rate is surreal. 1.4 million barrels per day refining capacity puts Nigeria on the global energy map as a first,” the Oando chief said.
“This is a rising tide of enterprise that lifts everyone. Congratulations.”

On October 26, Dangote announced that the refinery would expand its output from 650,000 bpd to 1.4 million bpd within the next three years.

Speaking at the official announcement on Monday, the billionaire said the move underscores the company’s confidence in Nigeria’s economy and leadership, as well as its commitment to Africa’s energy independence.

“It is also about confidence in Nigeria, confidence in the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, confidence in Africa, and in our capacity to shape our own energy future,” Dangote said.

According to him, the refinery will employ over 65,000 workers, while the ongoing construction phase will continue to create opportunities for local industries.

Dangote added that the project highlights Africa’s ability to build and operate world-class infrastructure.

The federal government has pledged full support for the refinery’s expansion, which is expected to significantly boost domestic refining capacity and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported fuel.
