The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has concluded preparations for the final forfeiture proceedings in the case involving suspects linked to a multi-million-dollar Nigerian-Mexican methamphetamine production laboratory uncovered in a remote forest in the Ijebu area of Ogun State.
Gatekeepers News reports that ahead of the court’s final ruling, the agency on Wednesday took journalists on a guided visit to the clandestine laboratory, where members of the suspected drug syndicate were arrested during a major enforcement operation.
According to the NDLEA, operatives stormed the hidden facility deep inside the Ijebu forest, secured the area and caught the suspects by surprise while they were allegedly producing methamphetamine.
Seven key members of the syndicate were arrested during the raid.
The suspects include three Mexican nationals, who were allegedly brought into Nigeria to manufacture the illicit drug, and four Nigerian collaborators.
The defendants are expected to appear in court for the final forfeiture judgment, which is expected to determine the fate of assets linked to the illegal drug operation.
