Lagos State Government has announced plans to divert traffic along the Lekki-Ajah corridor for eight months to allow major repair works on the busy route.

Gatekeepers News reports that according to Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation, the rehabilitation project will begin on November 15, 2025, and is expected to be completed by July 15, 2026.

The works will be executed in two phases to reduce traffic congestion and ensure smooth vehicular movement during the construction period.

Osiyemi said in a statement, “Preliminary works are already in progress, and the project will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to road users.”

The first phase covers the Lekki 1st Toll Gate to the Lekki 2nd Toll Gate, while the second phase extends from the Lekki 2nd Toll Gate to the Ajah Underbridge. Each segment will be repaired in sections, with only one lane closed at a time while traffic is redirected to the other lane.

During the first phase, motorists heading towards Lekki and Ajah will still have access through one lane, while in the second phase, vehicles coming from Ajah inward Lekki will be diverted as repairs continue on alternating lanes.

The commissioner urged drivers to remain calm and obey traffic officers and signs placed along the construction route. He added that the temporary inconvenience is part of the government’s long-term plan to enhance road quality and improve travel experience across the Lekki-Epe axis.

The statement added, “Motorists are advised to be patient and follow traffic directions. These repairs are part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to improve road quality and ease traffic flow.”
