Tensions within Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) intensified on Saturday as Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, openly ridiculed party figures who announced the expulsion of his principal alongside several other Wike-aligned members.
Gatekeepers News reports that in his usual sharp tone, Olayinka dismissed the group’s meeting in Ibadan as little more than an early December celebration disguised as a political gathering.
He said, “When people decide to start their own dirty December in November, one can’t help but ignore whatever comes out of their mouths.”
Olayinka said that the event lacked seriousness and had no real effect. According to him, the individuals involved merely gathered in Ibadan to have a social party, enjoyed themselves and got intoxicated, arguing that their actions carried no legitimacy within the PDP’s proper structures.
His comments highlight the deepening feud between factions loyal to Wike and those supporting the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, amid disputes over disciplinary measures, the party’s convention, and recommendations from the Board of Trustees.
According to Olayinka maintained; no valid authority within the PDP could sanction Wike or his associates, adding that others listed for expulsion include Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), former Governor Ayo Fayose, and Hon. Austin Nwachukwu.
PDP, however, described the expulsions as a necessary step to restore unity, discipline, and direction as it moves toward the 2027 general elections.
He said, “The decision, which was promptly ratified by an overwhelming majority of delegates, underscores the party’s commitment to eradicating internal divisions and anti-party conduct that have plagued its progress.”
