Police Officer Killed And Another Injured As Mixer Truck Veers Off Road In Abuja

One police officer has died and another injured after a mixer truck lost control and struck them along the Sani Abacha Expressway in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command said.

Gatekeepers Newreports that in a statement on Wednesday, Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson, said the accident occurred around 2:20 p.m. on December 3 near the National Ecumenical Centre. Preliminary investigations indicated that the truck, driven by Salman Usman, an employee of a construction company in Wuse Zone 5, veered off the road and crashed at the scene.

Adeh confirmed that two officers on official duty were hit, resulting in one fatality while the other is receiving medical treatment. She described the incident as a stark reminder of the risks police personnel face while “protecting lives and ensuring smooth traffic management” in the nation’s capital.

The truck driver has been taken into custody, and other vehicles involved in the crash have been recovered for further investigation and safety inspections.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, extended condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased officer and wished a speedy recovery to the injured officer. He assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted to “ensure justice is served.”
