TikTok has temporarily disabled the LIVE-streaming feature for its Nigerian users between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. local time.
Gatekeepers News reports that the platform said the move is part of an ongoing investigation to keep the service safe and protect its community.
The blackout prevented creators not only from hosting live sessions but also from watching live broadcasts from abroad.
People who typically rely on nighttime live shows for entertainment or income through features like gift-based monetization, were barred for the duration. Still, those who earn money via livestream gifts kept their existing balances and past earnings.
To host LIVE streams on TikTok in Nigeria, a user must generally have at least 1,000 followers, be at least 16 years old (18+ to earn), and maintain a clean record without community-guideline violations.
This suspension comes on the heels of intensive content enforcement by TikTok. Between January and March 2025, the company deleted over 3.6 million videos in Nigeria for breaching its Community Guidelines.
In addition, during that period it banned more than 42,000 LIVE rooms and interrupted over 48,000 livestreams in the country for violations.
According to TikTok, the late-night restriction targets rising incidents of inappropriate content on late-night LIVE, some of which reportedly involved sexual content and other adult-oriented acts.
