Four children were reportedly killed during a reprisal attack on Dorong village in the Foron district of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident was said to have taken place on Thursday morning.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, reported that the assault was allegedly carried out by armed Fulani herders.

The attack was linked to growing tensions in the area over cattle rustling and repeated violence against herders.

The victims were identified as Precious Joshuah, 17; Isa’ac Joshuah, 9; Mary Joshuah, 7; and Eve Sambo, 3.

The publication noted that the attack came less than two days after coordinated assaults on pastoral settlements in Barkin Ladi, Jos East, and Riyom local government areas, where about 168 cattle were reportedly rustled and several others poisoned.

Residents were said to have been living in fear since the cattle rustling incidents, with warnings of possible retaliation.

Security operatives have since been deployed to the area to prevent further violence and restore calm.
