A fire erupted on Saturday at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) office in No. 15 Sokode Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

Gatekeepers News reports that officials noted that the incident which prompted an urgent emergency response, left no deaths or injuries.

According to a statement from the agency’s media team, the blaze started on the fourth floor of the building and was first noticed by FIRS security personnel, who quickly took action before firefighting teams arrived.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service and other emergency responders worked swiftly to extinguish the flames and stop them from spreading to other parts of the premises.

While FIRS said no lives were lost, several offices on the affected floor suffered damage. Preliminary assessments suggest the fire may have been sparked by an electrical fault, and authorities have already begun an investigation into the cause.

The agency also stated that it is reviewing and strengthening internal safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The quick containment of the fire prevented a repeat of a more tragic incident earlier this year when a deadly fire at Afriland Towers in Lagos claimed lives, including staff members of FIRS and other organisations.

Authorities and emergency services reiterated their commitment to workplace safety and urged the public that the situation in Abuja is now under control and poses no further threat to life or surrounding areas.
