The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given Ndigbo the Biafra they have long sought through what he described as the South East’s full inclusion in national politics and governance.
Gatekeepers News reports that Umahi made the assertion on Wednesday in his New Year message, where he praised the Tinubu administration’s economic policies and said the worst period in Nigeria’s nationhood was over.
According to the former Ebonyi State governor, the coming year will witness a significant turnaround across all sectors of the economy as a result of the present administration’s reforms.
He urged the people of the South East to remain steadfast in their support for President Tinubu’s re-election, describing the President as a consolation to Ndigbo after years of neglect and marginalisation.
Umahi expressed confidence that the region would correct what he called the mistake of the 2023 general election by voting overwhelmingly for Tinubu in 2027, whom he said has addressed the “criminal marginalisation” of the South East by successive administrations.
“Our people will never make the mistake of 2023. We shall remain resolute and stand strongly together behind Mr. President in the 2027 election. Ndigbo will not be deceived again by marauding politicians with sugar-coated mouths.
“One of our brothers is already saying that in 2027 he will be on the ballot, but I’m here telling Ndigbo that President Tinubu will be on the ballot, and once he’s on the ballot, all the Governors of the South East are on the ballot, and myself, the Minister of Works, is also on the ballot because it is our collective interest to support Mr. President, a man who has reopened our chapter and is massively investing in our future. Indeed, the Biafra is here,” Umahi said.
The minister called for social reengineering and the deradicalisation of remaining minds in the region, urging the people to understand that the Biafra Ndigbo fought for and continue to seek has come through national integration and acceptance as equal participants in Nigeria’s development.
Umahi also assured Nigerians that federal road infrastructure projects ongoing across all regions of the country are receiving adequate funding and supervision, adding that many of the projects would be completed within record time and to specification.
He further disclosed that a special task force would be constituted to enforce strict compliance with the directive banning trucks from parking on federal highways.
According to him, the Ministry of Works will collaborate with security agencies to ensure the safety of travellers returning to their destinations after the Yuletide season.
