Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea after a late equaliser at Etihad Stadium, denying the hosts all three points in Sunday’s Premier League action.
Gatekeepers News reports that City dominated large spells of the game and created several chances but failed to put Chelsea away.
Tijjani Reijnders gave the home side the lead in the first half with a powerful strike after capitalising on a loose ball. Before the goal, Erling Haaland came close twice, forcing a save and hitting the post.
Chelsea, playing without a permanent manager, started cautiously but improved after the break. Pedro Neto missed a clear chance, while City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma kept out efforts from Chelsea substitutes as the visitors pushed forward.
Just when City looked set for another home win, Chelsea struck deep into added time. Enzo Fernandez reacted quickest inside the box and poked the ball home on his second attempt to make it 1-1 and silence the Etihad crowd.
The result ended Manchester City’s recent winning run against Chelsea and stopped their streak of victories in league games where they had taken the lead. City moved back into second place on the table on goal difference, with Arsenal maintaining a clear lead at the top.
Elsewhere in the league, Liverpool dropped points again after being held to a 2-2 draw by Fulham, conceding a late goal.
Manchester United also failed to secure a win, drawing 1-1 away at Leeds United. Newcastle United recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace to continue their good form.
