The Kabiru Turaki-led national working committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja amid the ongoing leadership crisis within the opposition party.
Gatekeepers News reports that the meeting took place at Jonathan’s office in Maitama, the federal capital territory.
While details of the discussion were not made public, sources said the talks focused on the internal leadership dispute in the PDP and broader political developments in the country.
The visit comes after a faction of the PDP, backed by several party Governors, organised a national convention in November and announced a new national leadership.
The convention was supported by key figures including Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State, and Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, with Kabiru Turaki emerging as chairman of the factional NWC.
At the convention, the party faction announced the expulsion of Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, along with several of his allies.
Those listed included former Oyo State Governor Ayodele Fayose, former national secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and other past party officials.
The Wike-led group rejected the decision, describing it as illegal, and went on to set up a parallel national working committee, board of trustees, and national executive council.
In response, the rival factions exchanged further disciplinary actions, with each side announcing expulsions of key members aligned with the other.
