The Ministry of works has proposed multi-billion naira spending in the 2026 federal budget to settle judgment debts and fund selected infrastructure and administrative projects.

Gatekeepers News reports that Budget documents show that the ministry plans to spend about N5 billion on judgment-related liabilities, including N1.4 billion to settle court judgments against the ministry and nearly N4 billion linked to a specific legal suit.

Another N7 billion was set aside for outstanding payments on completed roads and construction projects, while N1.4 billion was proposed for legal fees.

Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presented the N58.18 trillion 2026 budget to the national assembly on December 19, with a strong focus on infrastructure, security, and economic recovery.

The works ministry remains central to the government’s road construction and rehabilitation drive across the country.

Beyond debt settlements, the ministry also made provisions for operational expenses. These include funds for vehicles for senior aides, media and visibility programmes on federal road projects, and the production of official publications and performance scorecards.

The budget further indicates that N2.8 billion has been earmarked for the construction of a presidential helipad and jetty in Lagos state.

Additional allocations cover the renovation of the ministry’s headquarters, procurement of medical equipment, digitisation of court case records, and upgrades to field office libraries.

The proposed spending is subject to approval by the national assembly as deliberations on the 2026 appropriation bill continue.
