Veteran Nigerian journalist and media leader Yakubu Mohammed, a co-founder of Newswatch magazine, has died.
Gatekeepers News reports rnah Mohammed passed away late Tuesday night in Lagos at the age of 75 after a brief illness.
He was born on April 4, 1950, in Ologba, Dekina LGA of Kogi State. He helped launch Newswatch in the mid-1980s alongside fellow journalists Dele Giwa, Ray Ekpu, and Dan Agbese, and was widely respected for his role in shaping investigative journalism in Nigeria during periods of political challenge.
Mohammed served at various editorial and leadership levels at Newswatch, including Managing Editor and Deputy Chief Executive Officer, and earlier worked with New Nigerian Newspapers and National Concord.
His death comes just about two months after the passing of Dan Agbese, another co-founder of Newswatch.
Mohammed also served in leadership and academic roles, including as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
