Oriyomi Hamzat, a well‑known media figure and chief executive of Agidigbo FM in Ibadan, has formally joined Accord Party and announced his plan to run for Oyo State governor in 2027.

Gatekeepers News reports that Hamzat made the announcement on Saturday at a rally held at Liberty Stadium in Ibadan, drawing large crowds from across the state.

Hamzat said he is stepping into partisan politics for the first time, describing his decision as a response to what he believes is a call to serve the people of Oyo State rather than a pursuit of personal gain. He said he would not campaign for or support any other candidate as he focuses on his own bid.

The broadcaster’s entry into the race marks a shift from his previous role as a supporter of other politicians, and he has framed his campaign as one rooted in grassroots engagement and the voices of ordinary citizens.

His station, Agidigbo 88.7 FM, which began full broadcast in March 2021 and is known for its people‑centered approach, has boosted his recognition among listeners across Oyo State.

Hamzat’s declaration comes amid broader political realignment in Oyo ahead of 2027 polls, including the recent defection of former PDP aide Wale Ajani to Accord Party, where he plans to pursue a senatorial ticket.

Hamzat has expressed confidence that his connection with voters and his focus on youth opportunities, development, and community service will form the basis of his campaign as he seeks to lead Oyo State from 2027.
