Dangote Petroleum Refinery has raised the ex-gantry price of premium motor spirit, commonly called petrol, from N699 to N799 per litre.

Gatekeepers News reports that the new price represents an increase of N100 and replaces the previous rate that took effect on December 12, 2025. Following the adjustment, petrol sold through MRS retail outlets now goes for N839 per litre, up from N739.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the refinery explained that the price change followed the end of the festive season and was aimed at maintaining market balance.

“With the festive period concluded, PMS prices have been modestly realigned to sustainable levels to support long term market stability and affordability,” the statement said.

“Under the current alignment, the PMS gantry price is N799 per litre, while MRS retail outlets are selling at N839 per litre.”

The refinery said the earlier lower prices were part of a temporary support measure introduced to ease financial pressure on Nigerians during the festive period, when household spending was high.

It noted that this was the second festive season in a row that it absorbed major costs in the national interest, including logistics support in 2024 and a price cut in 2025 to encourage affordability and calm in the market.

Dangote Refinery, however, criticised many filling stations for failing to reflect the reduced prices at the time, saying Nigerians were denied the full benefit of the intervention.

“As a domestic producer, Dangote Petroleum Refinery continues to shield the Nigerian market from import related volatility and external supply disruptions, while remaining a stabilising force in the downstream petroleum sector,” the statement said.

The refinery restated its commitment to energy security, stable pricing, and steady fuel supply across the country.

Commenting on the development, David Bird, chief executive officer of the refinery, said the plant is currently supplying about 50 million litres of petrol daily to the local market, with distribution running smoothly nationwide.

He added that the refinery’s flexible processing system allows it to refine different grades of crude and feedstock, making it possible to maintain petrol supply even during routine maintenance, thereby ensuring uninterrupted availability.
