Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, on Sunday declared that he has no hidden plan to anoint any individual as his successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.
Gatekeepers News reports that the governor also stated that he is not backing any aspirant in the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) congresses, stressing that the process should be free, fair and transparent.
Governor Zulum made the disclosure amid growing political permutations over who would take over the reins of power after the expiration of his tenure.
At a critical APC stakeholders’ meeting convened at the Multi-purpose Hall of the Government House in Maiduguri, Zulum revealed that he doesn’t know who will succeed him as governor in 2027.

According to him, the future leadership of the state should emerge through merit and the collective will of party members.

“I have no candidate for any position, and I do not know who will succeed me. I have entrusted the choice of leaders to Almighty Allah, in accordance with the democratic will of the party members and the people of Borno State.” The governor said.

Zulum further canvassed for the emergence of new faces with fresh ideas to occupy various positions as the party prepares for its congresses.
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to internal democracy within the APC and called on party members to maintain unity and peaceful conduct.
He also set up two committees to scale up the APC e-registration and reconciliation among party members.
The 10-man committee will be headed by Nigeria’s former Ambassador to China, Baba Ahmed Jidda and will include members drawn from the state’s 3 senatorial districts.
