President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Adesayo Michael as the new managing director and chief executive officer of Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen oversight and service delivery in Nigeria’s power sector.
Gatekeepers News reports that the appointment was announced on Tuesday in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s spokesperson. Michael takes over from Aliyu Tahir, who previously headed the agency.
NEMSA is a key regulatory institution established by the federal government to enforce technical standards and safety regulations in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.
The agency is responsible for inspecting, testing, and certifying electrical installations, equipment, and meters, with the aim of improving electricity safety, efficiency, and reliability across the country.
Alongside Michael’s appointment, the president also approved the reconstitution of NEMSA’s governing board. Aliyu Abdulazeez was named executive director, technical, while Ikechi Nwosu was appointed chairman representing the south-east.
Other board members include Zubair Idris, Igba Elizabeth representing the north-central, Sani Shehu representing the north-east, Adeyemi Adetunji representing the south-west, Emmanuel Nkpe representing the south-south, and Charles Asogwa representing the south-east.
The statement explained that the appointments reflect the administration’s commitment to regional balance and professional competence in the management of critical public institutions, especially those central to national infrastructure and economic development.
In another key decision, Tinubu also appointed Magaji Aliyu as the managing director of the Sheda Science and Technology Complex (SHESTCO) in Abuja.
The complex is a federal research institution tasked with advancing scientific innovation, technological development, and the operation of a nuclear research facility aimed at supporting national growth in science and technology.
Furthermore, the president nominated Amina Gamawa from Bauchi State and Abdullahi Muktar from Kaduna State as commissioners to the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), a constitutional body responsible for overseeing revenue sharing, fiscal policies, and public finance management in Nigeria. Their names have been forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional requirements.
