The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu’s latest intervention will finally resolve the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the renewed presidential effort is aimed at restoring peace between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly, following months of escalating tension marked by impeachment threats and deep divisions within the legislature.
Speaking on Tuesday, Wike described President Tinubu’s role as that of a father stepping in to restore harmony in a troubled home.
“He is very kind to the people of the state. When there is a problem between the legislature and the governor, as a father, he must step in to intervene,” Wike said.
The former Rivers State governor noted that this was the second time President Tinubu had personally intervened in the crisis, expressing optimism that the move would bring lasting peace.
“This is the second time Mr President is intervening, and I believe, by the grace of God, that this will be the last time,” he stated.
Wike said he had instructed all parties involved in the dispute to comply fully with the president’s directives, adding that he was confident they would do so.
“I have told them to obey Mr President, and I am certain they will not hesitate,” he said.
He also expressed confidence that Governor Fubara would uphold the commitments reached during the presidential mediation.
“I know that the governor will carry out his own part to ensure that this is the final time the people of Rivers State will hear of such discord,” Wike added.
