Circumstances of the accident

Elohor reportedly died following a car accident in Ilorin, Kwara State. A close friend of the deceased shared a detailed account on social media, highlighting challenges with emergency response and healthcare access in the country.

According to the friend, a pothole caused the crash, and no emergency rescue service was immediately available to transport the victims. When help eventually arrived, the nearest public hospital was on strike, forcing the victims to travel to another city.

The private facility they reached was reportedly ill-equipped to handle the situation.

“1. Bad roads – pothole led to accident.

2. No emergency service – no one to move them quickly to hospital.

3. Hospitals on strike – finally, a Good Samaritan arrives; the nearest functional facility is in another city.

4. Poorly equipped private hospitals – no MRI; the nearest is in Ogbomosho. My girl didn’t make it back from that trip,” the friend wrote.

The account underscores the critical gaps in infrastructure and emergency response that continue to affect road accident victims in Nigeria.
