President Bola Tinubu has called on state governors to remain committed to the welfare of citizens, describing investment in people as the most rewarding venture in a democracy.
Gatekeepers News reports that the President made the remarks on Monday in Yola while commissioning projects executed by Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Tinubu said good governance must be rooted in the needs and aspirations of the people, stressing that democracy can only thrive when leaders pursue policies that improve citizens’ quality of life.
“Governance is not merely about holding political office; it is about service and measurable impact,” he said.
“The only profitable investment in democracy is investment in the people.”
He urged governors nationwide to sustain efforts in economic growth, infrastructure, healthcare, education and social protection, while calling for stronger collaboration between the federal and state governments to ensure development reaches grassroots communities.
The President commended Fintiri’s leadership and described him as “a true reflection of who we are as a united people.” He also appealed to citizens to support their governors to enable them deliver on their mandates.
In his remarks, Fintiri listed several projects completed by his administration, including a new NYSC orientation camp nearing completion, the Yola Model School, the dualisation of Gimba Road, the expansion and remodelling of the High Court complex, and the construction of a modern shopping mall.
The governor disclosed that 5,000 teachers had been recruited to strengthen the education sector and staff newly commissioned schools. He added that his government is addressing water scarcity across the state and announced plans to name the NYSC orientation camp after President Tinubu.
Describing education as the greatest weapon against poverty, Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to security, pledging to work with federal authorities to defeat banditry and terrorism.
President Tinubu expressed optimism about the state’s future, saying he sees hope in the faces of the people of Adamawa and reiterating his call for leaders at all levels to carry citizens along in governance.
