Unknown gunmen have killed Kehinde Jacob Faledon, the traditional ruler of Agamo community in Akure North LGA of Ondo State, after storming his palace in a late-night attack.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred on Wednesday evening when armed men invaded the monarch’s residence, forcefully abducted him, and fled the area. Moments later, the traditional ruler was discovered at a nearby location with multiple gunshot wounds and was confirmed dead at the scene.
Ondo State Police Command said it received a distress call shortly after the attack from a community leader, prompting an immediate security response.
Confirming the development, the police spokesperson, Jimoh Abayomi, said officers swiftly mobilised to the scene, while tactical units were deployed to track down the attackers.
“Information reached the division at about 7:50pm from a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu, that about six armed men stormed the residence of the monarch and forcibly took him away,” Abayomi said.
“The victim was subsequently found with gunshot injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene.”
“The divisional police officer supported by tactical teams of the command, mobilised officers in collaboration with local hunters, Atuluse Security, and Amotekun operatives are combing the surrounding bushes and neighbouring communities.”
“Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators of this heinous crime.”
“Monitoring activities have also been strengthened to ensure the safety of residents and prevent a breakdown of law and order.”
Security operatives have since cordoned off the area, while intensive search operations continue across nearby forests and border communities. Authorities said investigations have been widened to uncover the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible.
The attack has thrown Agamo community into mourning, with residents expressing shock over the brutal killing of the monarch, who was described as a peaceful leader committed to community development.
Community leaders have called on security agencies to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice and strengthen security in rural areas across the state to prevent further attacks.
