South African singer Tyla has emerged winner over top Nigerian music stars at the 2026 NAACP Image Awards, continuing her strong run on the global stage.
Gatekeepers News reports that the annual ceremony, organised by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), honours outstanding achievements by artistes of colour across music, film, television, and literature.
Tyla triumphed in a category that featured some of Nigeria’s biggest names. Burna Boy was nominated for his song Love, Davido earned a nod for With You, his collaboration with Omah Lay, while Tiwa Savage was recognised for You4Me. Jamaican singer Skip Marley was also nominated for In Our Sight.
Her latest win adds to a string of international achievements. Earlier this year, Tyla won the Best African Music Performance award at the 2026 Grammy Awards, once again surpassing major African contenders.
She had been nominated alongside Wizkid and Ayra Starr, Ugandan artiste Eddy Kenzo, and Mehran Matin for Hope & Love.
The victory builds on her rapid rise since 2024, when she secured her first Grammy Award after defeating several leading Nigerian artistes in the same category.
Tyla’s continued success underscores her growing influence and dominance in African music on the global stage.
