The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced an expansion of services on the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS), citing rising passenger demand along the busy corridor linking the Federal Capital Territory and Kaduna State.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement signed by the corporation’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the revised timetable will take effect from Friday, March 6, 2026.
According to the NRC, the updated schedule is designed to offer commuters more travel options, enhance operational flexibility, and improve overall service delivery on one of the country’s most patronised rail routes.
Under the new arrangement, services will vary across the week to reflect travel patterns.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, two trips will operate daily, with departures from Idu at 8:45 a.m. and return services from Rigasa at 2:30 p.m.
Fridays and Sundays will feature three services, departing Idu at 7:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., while trains will leave Rigasa at 11:30 a.m.
“Saturdays and Mondays: Three services are also scheduled, with trains departing Rigasa at 7:15 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and from Idu at 11:00 a.m. All trains will make scheduled stops at Kubwa,” the agency said.
The corporation noted that operations on the corridor had previously faced disruptions, including the March 28, 2022 bomb blast and the August 26, 2025 derailment, incidents that temporarily reduced available rolling stock, slowed travel speeds, and limited the number of daily trips.
With improved stability and sustained passenger demand, the NRC said it is now restoring and expanding services to better meet commuter needs.
Passengers have been advised to familiarise themselves with the new timetable and plan accordingly, as the corporation intensifies efforts to enhance capacity, reliability, safety, and overall travel experience across its rail network.
