Former Rivers State Governor and ex‑minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi has officially registered as a member of African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Gatekeepers News reports that Amaechi completed his registration on Friday morning at Ward 8 in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, his hometown, in an event attended by party supporters and residents.
The registration came hours after suspected political thugs set fire to the ADC ward office in Ubima, causing panic among residents early Friday. Witnesses said the attackers also fired sporadically in the community on Thursday night, sparking tension ahead of Amaechi’s arrival.
Despite the hostile environment, Amaechi urged his supporters to reject violence and maintain peace during the registration exercise. He also commended security agencies, including the state commissioner of police and the director of the Department of State Services, for their professionalism in responding to the situation and helping restore calm after the attack.
Amaechi went on to call on security operatives to investigate the arson attack and bring those responsible to justice, saying such acts will not deter the party’s activities in the area.
ADC has been gaining attention in opposition circles as it seeks to consolidate forces to challenge the ruling party in the 2027 elections, with other high‑profile figures like Peter Obi having joined the party in recent months.
