At least 23 people have been confirmed dead and 108 others injured following multiple bomb explosions in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the attacks occurred on Monday evening at about 7:24pm, hitting three major locations, a busy market, the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office flyover.

The Borno State Police Command said preliminary findings indicate that the explosions were carried out by suspected suicide bombers. A statement by the police spokesperson confirmed that the victims sustained varying degrees of injuries, while emergency responders and security operatives were immediately deployed to the affected areas.

Security has since been intensified across Maiduguri, with joint teams of police, military, and other agencies increasing surveillance to prevent further attacks. Authorities also urged residents to remain calm and report any suspicious activity.

Reports indicate that the blasts targeted crowded areas during the evening period, causing panic and overwhelming nearby medical facilities with casualties.

Although no group has officially claimed responsibility, security sources suspect the involvement of extremist groups such as Boko Haram or ISWAP, which have a long history of attacks in the region.

The incident is considered one of the deadliest attacks in Maiduguri in recent times, raising fresh concerns about a resurgence of insurgent violence in northeastern Nigeria.
