A fresh wave of political tension has emerged within All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) following the entry of Stella Oduah into Anambra North senatorial race, sparking controversy among party supporters and rival aspirants.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement released by her media team, critics opposing Oduah’s candidacy were accused of pushing a narrative centered on “loyalty” as grounds to deny her the party’s ticket.
The statement described the argument as inconsistent and self-serving, insisting that political parties are primarily driven by the goal of winning elections rather than rigid loyalty principles.
The development has exposed internal divisions within APGA, as Oduah’s supporters argue that some of her opponents have themselves benefited from similar political dynamics in the past.
Reference was made to individuals who rose within the party through influential backing or switched allegiances from parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before gaining prominence in APGA.
According to the statement, Oduah’s political credentials, including her experience as a two-time senator and former minister, position her as a strong contender capable of improving the party’s chances in a district it has historically struggled to secure.
The camp further warned that sidelining her candidacy on the basis of loyalty could weaken the party’s competitiveness, urging members to prioritize strategic decisions over internal sentiments.
