Iran has issued a strong warning that it could completely shut down the Strait of Hormuz if the United States carries out threats to attack its power plants, escalating tensions in the already volatile Middle East.
Gatekeepers News reports that the threat follows an ultimatum by US President Donald Trump, who warned that Washington could obliterate Iran’s power infrastructure if Tehran fails to reopen the strategic waterway within a set deadline.
In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the country would completely close the Strait of Hormuz and launch retaliatory actions targeting US-linked assets and regional energy infrastructure if any such strikes occur.
Iranian officials also warned that key facilities across the Middle East including energy and water infrastructure, could be attacked, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes, accounting for a significant share of global energy shipments. Disruptions in the area have already affected shipping and pushed global oil prices higher, with analysts warning of severe economic consequences if the situation worsens.
Amid the rising tensions, the US has increased its military presence in the region, while Iran has signaled readiness to escalate further if provoked, deepening concerns over a broader conflict that could impact global energy markets and security.
