Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced plans to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike starting Tuesday, following unresolved issues with the federal government.
Gatekeepers News reports that the strike is scheduled to begin at 12:00 a.m. and will involve resident doctors across public hospitals in Nigeria.
The association said the decision was driven by the government’s failure to meet key demands relating to doctors’ welfare, including allowances, working conditions, and implementation of previously agreed policies.
Resident doctors—who make up a significant portion of Nigeria’s hospital workforce—play a crucial role in emergency and routine healthcare services. Their withdrawal is expected to disrupt medical services nationwide if the dispute is not resolved quickly.
This development follows a series of tensions between NARD and the federal government over longstanding issues in the health sector, with previous negotiations failing to produce lasting solutions.
