2027: Ex-Edo Youth Parliament Speaker Prince Fawaz Explains Bid For EDHA Seat

Former Speaker of the Edo State Youth Parliament, Prince Fawaz Muhammad, has said his decision to contest the Etsako West Constituency I seat in the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) in 2027 under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is driven by a commitment to promote economic growth, peace, and sustainable development in Edo State.

Gatekeepers News reports that he made this known in a statement made available to journalists in Benin City.

Prince Muhammad noted that his experience as Speaker of the Edo State Youth Parliament has equipped him with practical knowledge of legislative processes, positioning him to contribute effectively to lawmaking if elected.

“Having presided over legislative proceedings at the youth parliament level, the business of lawmaking is not new to me. I understand the responsibility, and I am prepared to serve with competence and clarity,” he said.

He stressed that the people of Etsako West Constituency I deserve purposeful and informed representation, adding that his understanding of the constituency gives him a unique advantage.

According to him, the voices of the people have not been adequately represented over the years, a gap he said he is determined to bridge.

“I am stepping forward to give my people a voice—one that is strong, consistent, and truly reflective of their needs and aspirations,” he stated.

Prince Fawaz further said his legislative agenda will focus on supporting policies and initiatives that create employment opportunities, enhance security, and improve the overall standard of living.

“My goal is to champion laws that will open up opportunities for our people—jobs, improved security, and better living conditions across our communities,” he added.

He also emphasized youth-focused policies, including skills acquisition programmes and educational support.

“As a young leader, I understand the urgency of youth empowerment. I will advocate policies that promote skills development, entrepreneurship, and access to education, including bursaries for students,” he said.

Speaking on leadership, Prince Muhammad noted that current realities demand a shift from traditional political approaches to more innovative and results-oriented governance.

“The old ways of doing politics have not delivered the desired results. What we need now is leadership that is energetic, forward-thinking, and responsive to the realities of our time,” he said.

He, however, maintained that his aspiration is driven by a sense of duty to serve rather than personal ambition.

“This is not about power or personal gain. It is about service. It is about giving back to the people and answering the call for responsible leadership,” he stated.

The former Youth Parliament Speaker concluded that his aspiration represents a broader call for a new generation of leaders to bring integrity, competence, and vision into governance.

“This is a moment for my generation to step forward—with character, capacity, and a genuine commitment to the people,” he said.
