A member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Muhammad Hassan, has passed away at the age of 66.
Gatekeepers News reports that Hassan died on Friday after a period of illness. His death was announced on Saturday by the spokesperson of the House, Akin Rotimi.
Hassan represented Dawakin Kudu/Warawa federal constituency of Kano State and was elected into the House in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Before his death, he served as deputy chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary and was also a member of several key committees, including public petitions, aviation, solid minerals, constitution review, and treaties and agreements.
The House described his passing as a major loss, noting that he was a respected legislative counsel and legal draftsman whose work contributed significantly to Nigeria’s legislative and constitutional development.
Rotimi said Hassan brought decades of experience from the National Assembly bureaucracy, where he rose to the rank of permanent secretary before joining partisan politics, adding that his expertise enriched parliamentary work and national discourse.
