Genevieve Nnaji Returns To Screen In BBC Drama ‘Wahala’

Genevieve Nnaji is set to return to the screen after being announced as part of the cast for Wahala, a new BBC drama adapted from Wahala, the debut novel by Nikki May.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the BBC confirmed the full cast of the upcoming series in a recent publication.

‘Wahala,’ which means trouble, is a six-part thriller produced by Ado Yoshizaki Cassuto and distributed by Firebird Pictures, a division of BBC Studios. The series is scheduled to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, while BBC Studios will oversee global distribution.

The drama is written and executive-produced by BAFTA-nominated screenwriter Theresa Ikoko, with directing credits shared by Leonora Lonsdale, Ikoko, and Remi Weekes.

Nnaji joins a cast that includes Adelayo Adedayo, Deborah Ayorinde, Cush Jumbo, and Susan Wokoma.

The story centres on four Nigerian-British women in their 30s as they navigate careers, relationships, and family life in London. As events tied to their childhood homes begin to resurface, hidden secrets and painful pasts threaten to disrupt their lives and ambitions.

The series combines themes of suspense, love, family, loyalty, and tragedy.

Speaking about the production, Ikoko expressed excitement about bringing the story to life.

“I can’t wait to bring Wahala to life with this amazing cast, wonderful directors and brilliantly talented crew,” she said.

Nnaji also described the project as an exciting one.

“I’m very happy to be joining Wahala and to be working with such a brilliant team. It’s an intriguing story, and I’m excited to be a part of it,” the actress said.

Also reacting, Lindsay Salt described the script as “an absolute joy and everything you would want from Nikki May’s exquisite book brought vividly to life.”
