Nigeria Has No Ebola Case Despite Regional Health Concerns— NCDC

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has assured Nigerians that no confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease has been recorded in the country despite the recent outbreak reported in parts of Central Africa.

Gatekeepers News reports that Director-General of NCDC, Jide Idris, said the agency had intensified surveillance and emergency preparedness measures across the country following confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighbouring Uganda.

He noted that health authorities were closely monitoring the situation to prevent possible importation of the virus into Nigeria.

According to the agency, surveillance has been strengthened at international airports, land borders, and healthcare facilities nationwide.

NCDC also urged Nigerians to remain calm while maintaining proper hygiene and promptly reporting symptoms such as fever, weakness, vomiting, or unexplained bleeding to health authorities.

The development follows World Health Organization’s declaration of the Ebola outbreak in Congo and Uganda as a public health emergency of international concern.

Health officials said the outbreak involves the rare Bundibugyo strain of the virus, which currently has no approved vaccine or specific treatment. More than 80 deaths and hundreds of suspected cases have reportedly been linked to the outbreak.
