Atiku Abubakar has urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from Arsenal’s Premier League title victory, describing the club’s success as proof that patience, resilience, and strategic planning eventually pay off.
Gatekeepers News reports that Arsenal F.C. ended their 22-year wait for the English Premier League title after Manchester City played out a 1-1 draw with AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday night, leaving Mikel Arteta’s side with an unassailable lead at the top of the table.
In a statement issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku congratulated Arsenal players, technical crew, and supporters across the world on the achievement.
The former vice president said Arsenal’s return to the summit of English football reflected years of rebuilding, discipline, and long-term vision.
“Arsenal’s victory did not happen overnight. It is the product of years of rebuilding, disciplined planning, bold decision-making, and the courage to stay the course even when success seemed distant. These are the same principles that have guided my journey in both public life and the private sector,” he said.
Atiku added that Nigeria must create an enabling environment where talent, enterprise, and innovation can thrive, just as Arsenal invested in youth development and a clear footballing philosophy.
“My vision has always been to build an economy that works for all—driven by enterprise, strengthened by institutional reforms, and powered by the energy of our youth. Just as Arsenal invested in youth development and a clear footballing philosophy, Nigeria must invest in its people, reform its institutions, and stay committed to a coherent economic strategy,” he stated.
He also praised Nigerian Arsenal supporters for remaining loyal to the club through difficult periods, describing their support as a reflection of the enduring Nigerian spirit.
“Arsenal’s triumph is a powerful reminder that persistence, discipline, and an unwavering belief in one’s mission ultimately produce results. My own journey in public service has been defined by resilience, consistency, and an unshaken commitment to the Nigerian project,” Atiku added.
The former presidential candidate further urged Nigerians to remain hopeful ahead of the 2027 elections, saying unity and the right leadership could usher in a brighter future for the country.
Atiku also encouraged Arsenal to channel the same determination into winning the UEFA Champions League after conquering England.
