Tinubu Creates Health Technology Office – Appoints Adigwe As Coordinator

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of National Health Technology and Data Analytics Office (NHTDAO).

Gatekeepers News reports that NHTDAO is a new institution aimed at advancing digital innovation and data-driven decision-making in Nigeria’s healthcare system. He also named Dr. Obi Adigwe as the pioneer national coordinator of the office.

According to a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the office will function under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and serve as the central body for coordinating health technology initiatives, digital infrastructure and data analytics across the country.

The NHTDAO is expected to drive the adoption of digital health solutions, improve the collection and use of health data, and support the integration of emerging technologies into healthcare delivery. The government said the office will work alongside existing agencies to strengthen efficiency and innovation in the sector.

Adigwe, who currently heads the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), will oversee the implementation of the office’s mandate and help coordinate efforts to modernise healthcare services through technology.

The move is part of the federal government’s broader strategy to improve healthcare outcomes, strengthen health information systems and promote the use of technology in addressing challenges within Nigeria’s health sector.
