Nigerian Woman Pursues Guinness Record With 144-Hour Bible Reading Marathon

A Nigerian woman, Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack, has embarked on a marathon Bible-reading exercise in a bid to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest individual Bible reading session.

Gatekeepers News reports that the challenge, tagged “144 Hours in the Word,” began on June 22 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and is expected to run for 144 hours.

The Port Harcourt-based participant started the attempt at Novotel Hotel and had already surpassed 122 consecutive hours of reading as of Monday, with only brief breaks permitted under the rules governing marathon reading events.

Speaking about the motivation behind the challenge, Ihiovi-Jack said the exercise goes beyond the pursuit of a world record. She described it as a spiritual commitment aimed at encouraging deeper engagement with the Bible and demonstrating endurance through faith.

Organisers said the attempt is being conducted in line with Guinness World Records guidelines, which require participants to read aloud continuously while observing limited rest periods. Family members, friends and church supporters have remained at the venue to cheer her on throughout the challenge.

According to reports, no individual currently holds an official Guinness World Record specifically for the longest Bible reading marathon. If successfully completed and approved, Ihiovi-Jack could become the first recognised record holder in the category.

Her attempt has drawn attention online and adds to the growing number of endurance-based Guinness World Record pursuits by Nigerians in recent years.
