Rotimi Amaechi Loses Mother

Mary Amaechi, the mother of former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi, has died at the age of 89.

Gatekeepers News reports that the family announced that she passed away on Thursday, describing her as a devoted matriarch and respected community figure.  

In a statement issued by Amaechi’s media office, the late Mary Amaechi was described as a woman who held her family together through love, peace and unity.

The statement also noted that she was a prominent women’s leader in her community and a committed Christian whose unwavering faith and compassion earned her widespread admiration and respect.  

The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of sympathy and support received following her death, saying the condolences had brought comfort during the difficult period. They added that details of her funeral arrangements would be announced at a later date.  

Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation and Governor of Rivers State, was recently named the running mate to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for the 2027 general election.
