Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) after he reportedly surrendered in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to security sources cited by counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the suspect was apprehended at about 6:47 p.m. on July 14 during routine security operations at the Cashew Plantation area in Konduga.
The publication reported that during preliminary interrogation, the suspect identified himself as an ISWAP member from Warabe in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area, and claimed he voluntarily approached the troops to surrender.
According to Makama, “The suspect further disclosed that he had dumped his AK-47 rifle in a river before making contact with the troops.”
The publication further alleged that the suspect admitted to taking part in three separate attacks on Delwa alongside other members of the terrorist group.
Items reportedly recovered from him include a bicycle, a cutlass, a bicycle repair solution, a bicycle pump, a spoon, and ₦6,500 in cash.
Makama said the suspect remains in military custody and is undergoing further investigation to obtain intelligence that could support ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.
The publication added that the arrest is part of sustained military efforts to encourage insurgents to surrender while disrupting terrorist networks operating across the region.
