One person was killed while 48 abducted residents were rescued after troops of the Joint Task Force North-West under Operation FANSAN YAMMA repelled a terrorist attack on Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the operation followed a swift military response to a distress call reporting that dozens of armed terrorists had invaded the community.
According to Aliyu Danja, media information officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the attackers, who arrived on about 40 motorcycles in the early hours of Saturday, rounded up dozens of villagers with the intention of taking them into the forest, while another group guarded their motorcycles on the outskirts of the community.
Danja said troops immediately engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle upon arrival, forcing them to abandon the captives and flee into the surrounding bush. The prompt intervention led to the successful rescue of all 48 abducted civilians.
He added that one civilian lost his life during the attack, while two others sustained gunshot wounds and were evacuated to the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda for treatment. Following the rescue operation, troops carried out aggressive patrols across the area to prevent further attacks.
The military commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism, assuring residents of the North-West of its commitment to protecting lives and property.
It also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to sustain ongoing operations against terrorist groups in the region.
