CWG: Nigeria Ralay Team – Ruth Usoro Deliver Two Silver Medals

Team Nigeria strengthened its medal haul at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after the men’s 4×100 metres relay team and long jumper Ruth Usoro secured silver medals in their respective events.

Gatekeepers News reports that the quartet of Nicholas Fakorede, Udodi Onwuzurike, Favour Ashe and Kayinsola Ajayi crossed the finish line in 38.12 seconds to place third in the men’s 4x100m final. However, the Nigerian team was later upgraded to the silver medal position following a successful post-race review that altered the final standings.

In the women’s long jump, Ruth Usoro delivered another impressive performance for Team Nigeria, producing a best leap of 6.90 metres to claim the silver medal. The result further underlined her consistency on the international stage and added to Nigeria’s growing success in athletics at the Games.

The latest medals came on the back of Nigeria’s historic performances in Glasgow, including Samuel Ogazi’s gold in the men’s 400m and Ezekiel Nathaniel’s victory in the men’s 400m hurdles, as the country’s athletes continued to excel on the track and in the field events.

The double podium finish further boosted Nigeria’s standing on the Commonwealth Games medal table, with the athletics team maintaining its impressive run as the competition entered its closing stages.
