At least four Ugandan boxers have gone missing after failing to return home following their participation in the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to the BBC, the missing athletes are Nuhu Batte, Angel Katushabe, Ibrahim Kemis and Emily Nakalema.
One of the athletes reportedly told a Ugandan news outlet that they intended to seek asylum in Scotland rather than return home after the Games.
The incident is not limited to Uganda. Qudratullah, a Pakistani boxer, also failed to travel back with his country’s delegation and was declared missing after team officials searched his room.
Police Scotland confirmed it has received reports about the missing athletes and has launched investigations into the matter.
“Police Scotland has received reports of several athletes who are unaccounted for,” the force said.
“Inquiries are ongoing to assess the circumstances, and early engagement is taking place with the Home Office.”
The 2026 Commonwealth Games concluded on August 2, with participating countries expected to return their athletes and officials home following the competition.
Nigeria finished seventh on the overall medals table after winning 24 medals during the Games.
The disappearance of the athletes comes just weeks after 20 Ethiopian youth football players and officials reportedly absconded following their participation in the 2026 Gothia Cup in Sweden.
