Dangote Petroleum Refinery has maintained its position as Europe’s biggest external supplier of jet fuel, overtaking the United States for the second consecutive month as exports from the Nigerian facility continue to grow.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement issued on Thursday, the refinery said more than 400,000 metric tonnes of jet fuel were shipped to Europe in July, accounting for about 20 per cent of the continent’s total jet fuel imports during the month, according to data compiled by global commodities intelligence firm Kpler.
The latest performance follows a record 466,000 metric tonnes exported to Europe in June, when the Dangote refinery first displaced the United States as the region’s largest external supplier of aviation fuel. The refinery said the sustained exports highlight its ability to consistently meet Europe’s strict aviation fuel quality standards while strengthening Nigeria’s role in the global refined petroleum market.
Dangote Refinery attributed the milestone to increased production, revealing that jet fuel loadings at its Lekki export terminal reached a record 550,000 metric tonnes in June, while crude oil deliveries rose to an all-time high of 660,000 barrels per day, providing the capacity to sustain rising exports.
The company also said changing global energy trade patterns have created new opportunities for its products. Although Europe continued to receive smaller volumes of jet fuel from Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Oman, disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz and broader geopolitical developments have encouraged buyers to diversify their supply sources, boosting demand for Nigerian exports.
Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, David Bird, said the company has expanded exports of jet fuel, diesel, petrol and other refined petroleum products to markets across Europe, Africa and other parts of the world, reinforcing Nigeria’s emergence as a net exporter of high-value refined petroleum products.
