Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has appealed to aviation unions to suspend their ongoing industrial action and exercise restraint pending the return of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
Gatekeepers News reports that NCAA made the appeal in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Director-General, Capt. Chris Ona Najomo, amid disruptions caused by the industrial action to passengers and other stakeholders.
The authority said Keyamo had been actively working to resolve the issues responsible for the dispute and urged all parties to embrace dialogue and cooperation.
According to the NCAA, the matter was expected to be addressed at a meeting convened by the Minister last week, but the meeting could not hold because airline operators failed to honour the invitation.
The aviation authority assured passengers that flight safety had not been compromised, adding that it continued to carry out its statutory safety oversight responsibilities.
The NCAA expressed confidence that the dispute would be resolved shortly and that normal flight operations would resume as soon as practicable.
It, however, apologised to passengers for the inconvenience caused by the industrial action and appreciated their patience and understanding.
