Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has constituted a six-member fact-finding committee to investigate the recent poor performances of the country’s national teams, with particular attention on the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Gatekeepers News reports that the federation announced the committee on Friday, saying its mandate is to identify the factors responsible for the setbacks and recommend measures to improve the performance of Nigeria’s national teams.
The Super Falcons missed out on automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup after losing to Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). They subsequently suffered a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the continental playoff on Thursday, ending their hopes of reaching the tournament.
It is the first time Nigeria’s women’s senior national team has failed to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup since the competition began in 1991.
Former NFF General Secretary Fanny Amun will chair the committee. Other members are former Flying Eagles coach Ladan Bosso, former Super Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie, ex-Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju and former referee Alex Mana. Nasiru Sa’idu, Chairman of the Sokoto State Football Association, will serve as secretary.
The development comes barely a year after the Super Eagles also failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after losing to DR Congo on penalties in the African playoff.
NFF said the committee would examine the broader challenges affecting Nigeria’s national teams and provide recommendations aimed at reversing the recent decline in international competitions.
